Are you wondering if someone is interested in you or just being friendly?

You’re not the only one.

We get asked this question quite a lot.

Whether it’s trying to tell if that person at the shops was flirting with you or if they were just being friendly, figuring out the signs can be really tough.

So, we asked our online community, here’s what they had to say.

How Do Other People Work Out If Somebody Is Interested In You?

From Instagram: ✨Ask them✨

Our friends on Instagram kept it short and sweet:

Ask them

Solid advice.

Just asking someone if they like you is the quickest way to get an answer to that burning question.

From TikTok: Actions speak louder than words

Our friend over on TikTok said a person's actions speak louder than words:

‘They show you. They could talk for hours, but if they don’t make the decision to contact you consistently, put effort into your relationship and carry through with their claims and promises, it’s as good as nothing.’

We’d add to that and suggest communicating with them if you have any lingering doubts that they might be interested and to what level.

Someone could be giving mixed signals because they’re interested in you… just as a friend.

From TikTok: Shoot the shot

Another friend over on TikTok said:

‘Shoot the shot and move on if they say no.’

100%. If you’re not sure if they like you, it’s totally okay to make the first move.

But, if they don’t feel the same, remember that’s okay too and always respect the ‘No’.

Isn’t it better to potentially cop a rejection if it means there’s no more uncertainty?

From YouTube: Nobody reads minds

Somebody on YouTube had the same idea as us:

‘Talk to them. Ngl nobody reads minds, so you won't really know how each other feels if you don't ask, right?’

There is no point in assuming how someone else might feel.

Even if all the signs are there, or if the signs are sometimes there and sometimes not, or if you just have no idea what the signs are, don’t waste your time assuming you know how someone else is feeling.

Our Verdict?

There were tons of different opinions on this, but the one thing everyone seemed to agree on? Communicate.

Asking how someone feels about you, whilst also being open and honest about what your feelings towards them are, is way better than guessing.

Wouldn’t you rather rip the band-aid off and know if they like you back?

Ask them how they feel about you in a respectful way, and you won’t even have to think about it anymore

Even a simple, ‘Hey, I really like you. Can I take you out sometime?’ can be a great way to show your interest, whilst checking if they feel the same.

And importantly, remember to respect their boundaries.
